About the print

Description

Andy Warhol was an American visual artist, film director, and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art

He is known for his bright, colourful paintings and prints of subjects ranging from celebrities including Marilyn Monroe and Mohammed Ali, to everyday products such as cans of soup and Brillo pads.

Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans are among the most recognizable and celebrated works in the history of art. Warhol began his Campbell’s Soup Can paintings around 1961, and the subject would take various forms in the years to follow. For these works, Warhol not only used ink colours that departed from real colours, but also spray painted the back-grounds and the lower (white) portion of the label in different colours.

In 1965, Warhol executed the iconic Tomato Soup can in twenty unique colour combinations, such as orange, purple, and Kelly green as well as tan, blue, and red. In doing so he made each of these large-format, silkscreened paintings its own aesthetic and quintessentially Warholian “variety.”
