“The Battle Before the America's Cup”

This striking poster celebrates the 2002–2003 Louis Vuitton Cup, the prestigious yachting competition that determined the challenger for the 31st America’s Cup. Held in the picturesque Waitematā Harbour of Auckland, New Zealand, this event marked a thrilling chapter in international sailing.

More than just a regatta, the Louis Vuitton Cup was a global spectacle of design, strategy, and seamanship. Eleven syndicates from nine countries converged in Auckland, bringing cutting-edge technology and world-class sailing talent to the water. The 2003 edition was particularly dramatic, with Alinghi, the Swiss challenger led by Ernesto Bertarelli and skippered by New Zealand’s own Russell Coutts, emerging victorious. Alinghi would go on to defeat Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup, marking the first time a landlocked nation claimed sailing’s highest honor.

This poster captures the excitement, elegance, and international flair of the event. It’s not just a piece of sporting history—it’s a reminder of the era when Auckland stood as the beating heart of the sailing world.

Perfect for collectors, sailing enthusiasts, or lovers of bold nautical design, this piece evokes wind-filled sails, sunlit water, and the spirit of high-stakes competition.

PRINTING AND FRAMING

Print:
we use museum-quality 260GSM Lustre Paper combined with fade-resistant archival inks. Lustre Paper is a high-quality semi-gloss photo paper that balances the best qualities of gloss and matte finishes.
This means the print colours are very vibrant but with-out the reflective glare of a full Gloss Print. This paper is perfect art reproduction and in particular photographic prints.

Frame:
we use 30mm gallery quality Wood Frames with a flat (non-bevelled) profile which frames the artwork with a clean modern aesthetic. This style of frame also works well with a Mat Board which we use on all of our Framed Prints.

Our Prints are Mounted to the Backing Board: we directly mount all of our prints to the backing board which ensures the prints remain flat and smooth over time. Prints that are not mounted to the backing board will become wavy, and buckled over time.

Mat Board: we use a quality Acid-Free Colourfast White Mat Board which creates a professional, clean boarder around the artwork. This ensures the art-work pops and directs the viewers focus to the image. It also prevents the print from touching the glass which avoids moisture build-up that causes sticking and print deterioration.

Glass:
We use 2mm Scratch Resistant Glass which provides true-to-colour, distortion-free viewing which is easy to maintain as it can be cleaned using regular glass cleaners with-out the worry of scratches.

Back of the Frame

Backing Board: we use an acid-free foam Backing Board which prevents the prints yellowing over time and ensures the print remains in excellent condition. It also resists Moisture and Mold keeping the art-work safe in humid conditions.

Wire Hang-wire: distributes the weight evenly across the frame reducing the risk of damage or warping in addition to providing flexibility by allowing for repositioning of the frame after hanging with-out having to make new holes in the wall.

Customised Framing

Black or White frames are standard however custom colored frames are available. Contact support@roguesgallery.co.nz for information on custom sizes and colors.
